From Howrah railway station, we boarded the Howrah-Patna Janshatabdi Express. The train left Howrah station at around 2 pm. But after finding our seat we found that the window beside our seat was jammed and could not be opened. This was quite annoying as we were unable to look out of the window. The train reached Jasidih at 06:40 pm. We quickly came out of the station and took an auto to go to Deoghar. I had thought that if we could reach Deoghar before other passengers then we might get an advantage in booking rooms in hotels. But after going a little distance the auto driver went inside a petrol pump. And snap went my plans. We had to wait about 10 minutes there. Somehow we reached Deoghar and found a room in Hotel Mayur. The room was in the ground floor and there were no windows. That night we had our dinner at Sindhi restaurant. The food was very good.
The next day we decided to go to the Baidyanath Dham Mandir. We took a panda who was attached to our hotel. After seeing the temple, we came back to our hotel. On the way back we saw Baiju temple which is located in the main market of Deoghar near clock tower. According to Hindu Mythology, a Bhil boy named Baiju had been imparted knowledge by Lord Vishnu about the worshipping of Lord Shiva and pouring of water on the Lingam. But he could not find a pot to collect water and hence he filled his mouth with water and poured upon the Shivalingam. Impressed by his simplicity, Lord Shiva appeared before him. From then the temple came to be known as Baiju temple. This is a small temple. That day too we had our lunch at Sindhi restaurant. In the evening we went for a stroll at the marketplace near the Clock Tower. After looking at the things being sold for some time, we had our dinner. Then as we were moving towards our hotel, we saw an auto rickshaw. I asked the driver, how much he would charge for a round trip to Basukinath. He replied Rs. 650/-. We came to a deal and decided to go to Basukinath the next morning. Basukinath temple is situated about 45 km from the city of Deoghar. It is believed that pilgrimage to Babadham remains incomplete without paying a visit to Basukinath.
The day after, we woke up early as we had to start our journey towards Basukinath at 9 o' clock. We got ready and came outside the hotel. I called the auto driver. He was standing near the hotel with his auto which was being repaired. After everything was done, we set off to Basukinath temple. We had told him that we would also see Kundeshwari temple before going to Basukinath. So firstly we went to Kundeshwari temple. The road was very bad with ditches. At last we reached the temple. On reaching there we found that there were no other tourists. We went inside. There was a priest there. The Kundeshwari temple also housed a Navagraha temple. We stayed at the premises for some time.
Then we again set off towards Basukinath Dham. After a long auto drive of about one and a half hour we reached Basukinath Dham. As we were entering the temple, ladies were standing on either side trying to get milk into our hands. They told us to pour that milk on the Shiva Lingam. And for that they charged Rs. 10/-. This temple was smaller than Baidyanath Dham and was much crowd less. This was good for us as we didn't had to push ourselves through the crowd inside the Sanctum Sanctorium. One thing to note is that there is no facility for accommodation in Basukinath. People come here in the day and go back before night. After that we boarded our auto rickshaw and set off on our return journey. On the way we bought Pera, a kind of Indian sweet from Ghormara. Ghormara is a place that lies en route between Basukinath and Deoghar. The auto driver told us that this place is famous for peras. Truly it was. The peras were much more better than that of Deoghar. After eating some and taking some with us we came back to Deoghar at around 2 pm. After having lunch we went back to our hotel.
In the evening we did some shopping in the local market. Sweaters, jackets and other winter garments are quite cheap here. So we bought some of them. Then we went back to our hotel after having our dinner. Next day we woke up early. We took an auto and went to Jasidih station. From there we boarded the Patna-Howrah Janshatabdi Express. It departed at 09:10 hrs and reached Howrah at 13:45 hrs.
